Message from COO / MD

At the turn of the 20th century, the most prestigious and reputable Japanese shipping company, NYK Line (est. 1885) decided to move a large part of its ship-management activities to the then upcoming maritime hub, Singapore.

Subsequently, NYK Shipmanagement Pte Ltd (NYKSM) was established in Singapore in 2001 to manage vessels owned and/or chartered by NYK Line. With the continuous support of its parent, NYKSM expanded swiftly and today is one of the biggest ship-management companies operating from Singapore.

By itself, NYKSM does not own any ships, buildings or terminals. Instead it considers its people and management systems to be its most valuable assets. It is the knowledge of its people and the systems provided to utilize this know-how that make NYKSM what it is today. With this in mind, NYKSM focuses on professional development of its staff both on board and ashore.

Going a step further than most other companies, NYKSM assists its parent company to recruit and train cadets at an in-house training academy in The Philippines as well as other institutions in India, Asia and Europe and then conducts post-STCW training at centers in Singapore, Manila, Mumbai, Split and Constanta.

Consequently, NYKSM's strategy to sustain its final goal of customer satisfaction in the decades ahead rests largely on its employees and the NYK Line values inculcated into them - as depicted in the graphic below.
